Battling Nightmares with Daydreams

I was hanging out with two of my friends one day at their house. One had just put her baby down for a nap and I was about to help them make t-shirts for the Harry Potter release.

As I’m painting one of the shirts, one of the girls gets up to go to the bathroom. She pauses, looks up at the ceiling and goes “Is that a spider?”

She looks closer and screams, bolting for the front door. So the second girl also goes to investigate. She grabs a chair, climbs up on it to get a closer look. She jumps off the chair screaming “OH MY GOD!” And also bolts to the door where the two girls cling to each other for emotional support.

About this time, me, still sitting on the floor, can see the spider. It’s body is roughly the size of a quarter without the legs. It would not “pop” if squished… It would EXPLODE.

I’m sitting there looking at the spider in horror when the second girl gasps, hearing her baby fuss. They both look at me and she says “You be the man. You kill it. SAVE MY BABY!”

Now, I hate spiders. I will flip my lid over a tiny one, and here are two girls, just as scared as I am, ordering me to kill this monster. I stare at them for a moment before I get up and slowly walk over to the chair, keeping an eye on the spider. 

“Okay… I need something to kill it with. Toss me a shoe.”

So what do they do? There’s my sneakers by the door by them, a pair of boots owned by one of their boyfriends, and a bunch of other shoes. They grab the closest one and throw it to me.

They toss me a flip flop.
